WILD SHORE EDUCATION WORKSHOPS

MORNING SESSION
1. COMPOSING PRESENTATION / WORKSHOP
Learn about the process of composing, sketching, and notating music from composer Conrad
Winslow. After a presentation from Conrad about his compositional process, you can try your hand at composing melodies and notating passages of music using standard music notation or even graphic notation (no background in music notation required). The workshop will wrap up with live readings by members of the Wild Shore Ensemble of short compositions by workshop participants. Participants will have the opportunity to change dynamics, tempo, notes, and techniques with the players, and discover just how easy it is to make changes to their music. The workshop is open to all, even to those who are simply curious to learn about the process of composing.
2. INSTRUMENT EXPLORATION
Learn about the amazing variety of sounds produced by the instruments of the Wild Shore Ensemble (flute, piccolo, clarinet, bass clarinet, violin, cello, piano, and percussion). Emphasis is placed on contemporary playing techniques. Try out one or several of the instruments with a first lesson from the members of the Wild Shore Ensemble, or bring your own instrument for guided exploration into some extended techniques to produce sounds you didn’t know your instrument could make!
AFTERNOON SESSION
3. PERFORMANCE MASTERCLASSES
Offering masterclasses in flute, strings, piano, and percussion by members of the Wild Shore Ensemble. Bring your instrument and your music, perform your piece (any style or period), and get feedback from the extraordinary players of the Wild Shore Ensemble. If you play instruments other than those listed above, you are welcome to play a piece for the ensemble and those in attendance. Members of the ensemble will offer coaching on musicality, phrasing, rhythm, etc.
