Working Together on Seldovia’s Calendar

by Jenny Chissus

Thankful for SVT and Laurel Hilts today.

With the sponsorship of SVT, Laurel has been working hard to maintain the SeldoviaCalendar.com site with all the local events and activities for our community!  I was very thankful to have someone take over on this big task of coordinating all the various schedules into one GREAT calendar, from the city (Council, Parks & Rec and P&Z)  meetings, SOCC activities, chamber events and meetings, SVT activities, Susan B English events, Library programs, Arts Council concerts, etc!  It is a BIG job!

SeldoviaCalendarNotice

SeldoviaCalendarOnSeldovia.comWhat you see on Seldovia.com and all the Gazette pages, is an embedded file – which uploads all the information from the SeldoviaCalendar.com site onto the pages of Seldovia.com!  So, if you submit an event to Laurel – it will go in that calendar and automatically populate your information onto Seldovia.com!   It is a great partnership!

Please continue to send fliers (jpg and pdf docs) and information my way so that I can post it in the Gazette at:  Jenny@Seldovia.com – and copy Laurel at:   lhilts@svt.org, so that she can also put your activity on the calendar!  Thanks for your continued support in keeping all our great Seldovia event information current!

It is truly AMAZING how many things are going on in our little community!

LibraryNewSpaceThe Seldovia Public Library board is very pleased to announce that the library is expanding into the courtroom space downstairs in the library/multipurpose building.

The downstairs space will house our Alaska collection of adult books, a new computer (or two) received from an Online With Libraries (OWL) grant, as well as our video-teleconference equipment.

Within the coming year, we hope to renovate and furnish this room with new flooring, window treatments, paint, furniture, and improvements to the bookcases. In the meantime, please pardon this room’s appearance as we undergo our “growing pains.”

Rise of the guardians movieposterThis Saturday (the 13th), library staff will be moving our Alaska collection downstairs. If you would like to help, please come to the library at 4:00 pm. The public’s help is always welcomed. Library staff will be showing up a little earlier than this, and board members even earlier, to undergo some training that day.

After an hour of hard work, come sit back, relax, and join us for movie night at 6:15 pm as we watch Rise of the Guardians. Hope to see you there!

Tomorrow, Tuesday – April 9, 2013 – will be your opportunity to come and voice your opinion regarding the proposed Alaska Marine Highway Ferry Schedule for 2014.  This is your chance to participate in a teleconference to voice your comments and give the AMHS an opportunity to consider our position.  It is vital, as a small community dependent on this important transportation system to give our thoughts and for them to hear our voices – loud and clear!

If you can not attend the meeting at the Sea Otter Community Center (SOCC) at 1:30pm on Tuesday, then please feel free to join the teleconference at 1-800-315-6338 – conference code 3902#.  You can also go to the link here to access the proposed schedule.
