There’s a New Girl in Town – Welcome Kaya Della Baines!

Baby KayaSeldovia welcomes baby Kaya Della Baines, who was born in Homer on Sunday, October 13 at 10:28 p.m.   She weighed eight pounds, 10 ounces.

Kaya’s parents are Darin and Jennifer Baines of Seldovia.  Her maternal grandparents are Frank and Shelby Beaudry of Canby, Oregon, and paternal grandparents are the late Dan and Della Baines.   Kaya’s great-grandparents are Rod and Sunni Hilts of Seldovia, and Velma Baines of Sitka.

I had a chance to ask Jennifer, the new mom, a few questions about becoming a family – and she wanted to share these thoughts with the community of Seldovia.

Power Outage WEDNESDAY Morning on Main Street

A planned power outage for Tuesday, October 29, was cancelled due to unforeseen circumstances.  The outage has been rescheduled for Wednesday, October 30th.    Weather permitting, the outage will begin at  approximately 11:30 am and  affect parts of Vista Road, Illiamna Street, Spruce Street, and Inlet Street.

The outage is expected to last approximately one hour and is necessary so that HEA crew can replace electrical equipment in the area.  Thank you for your patience.

The Affordable Care Act is here and all Americans, unless exempt, must obtain health insurance. For many, navigating the new Health Insurance Marketplace can be intimidating.
That’s where Emiley Sue Faris comes in. Emiley is the Outreach Enrollment Coordinator at SVT Health & Wellness. She and an Outreach & Eligibility Specialist will be in Seldovia on Wednesday, October 30 to help people obtain proper coverage.
Emiley Sue Faris SVTHW“My staff and I are trained to help people through the process,” she said of the free service offered at SVT Health & Wellness. “We’ll show them their health insurance options, find out if they are eligible for financial assistance and guide them with the application.”
The one-on-one, confidential service is open to everyone, regardless of where they currently get medical care now or in the future. “Every state has people trained and certified to help folks understand their health coverage options,” Faris said. “We’re pleased to offer this service here in the Homer, Seldovia and Anchor Point areas.”
