Public Invited to Attend April 29 Scoping Open House in Seldovia
Press Release by Alaska DNR
(Anchorage, AK) – The Alaska Department of Natural Resources will host an open house on Tuesday, April 29, to gather public input on its planning process for revising the Kachemak Bay State Park and State Wilderness Park Management Plan. The meeting will be from 5-7 p.m. at the Multi Purpose Complex located at 259 Seldovia Street in Seldovia.
The purpose of the plan revision is to address issues the park is facing due to changing patterns in recreational use and increased visitation, as well as updating recommendations for park management and facility development. Additionally, a trail plan will be developed to provide specific guidance for trail management and development in these areas. An initial open house was held in Homer in November 2013 and additional scoping events will be scheduled in Homer, Port Graham, and Nanwalek.
Planning staff will be available at the Seldovia meeting to discuss issues, gather information, and learn more about current or future goals and uses related to the management plan revision. The open house is an opportunity for the planning team to include local input in the early stages of plan development.

by Jenny Chissus
I received this inspiring and uplifting book in the mail from the publisher of Chicken Soup for the Soul: Miracles Happen as it features a story about one of our very own – Peggy Cloninger!
“Miracles happen every day – you just have to look around you to see them and be open to accepting them. These powerful stories will give you hope, deepen your faith, and brighten even the darkest day.” – Shelby Janner, publicist with Chicken Soup for the Soul
Living in Alaska, we often confront scary, and potentially life threatening situations, and many times we are saved from the disaster that seemed inevitable, and live to tell about it. Here, in Peggy’s story “Freeze”, you can read about her miracle in Seldovia!

She weaves fine grass baskets, designs and makes jewelry, crafts beaded headdresses, and designs and sews skin and fur garments and accessories. Her work can be found in museums throughout Alaska and in private collections world-wide.
June is also a fantastic teacher. With her help, workshops participants will learn a variety of stitches while making a pair of deer hide slippers with fur trim. She will also teach about different types of hides and furs and how to use them to get the desired look in a project.
This is a business workshop as well as a sewing session: June has years of experience as a working artist, and will share her knowledge about the entire process of turning crafting skills into a business. How can you use social media like Facebook, or sites like Etsy, to market your items? What should you keep in mind when taking photographs of your items?
