Boil Water Notice – from the City of Seldovia

Boil Water Notice Update – October 29, 2024

The City of Seldovia has identified a hardware failure with the Stream Detector as the cause of the ongoing Boil Water Notice issued on October 25, 2024. We are working to resolve the issue and will keep the Water Treatment Plant on manual operations until the part is replaced.

Next Steps:

• We plan to begin a city-wide flush of the system tomorrow. During the flush on Wednesday and Thursday, you may notice cloudy water. If this happens, run your water until it becomes clear. If it doesn’t clear up, please contact us so we can extend flushing in your area.

• After the flush, we will send a water sample to a laboratory in Anchorage for testing. This test will confirm if the water meets adequate treatment levels.

• The earliest we expect to lift the Boil Water Notice is Friday, but it could extend through the weekend depending on when the sample is tested.

We will continue to provide updates as available and notification of the withdrawal of the Boil Water Notice when it occurs.

If you cannot boil water, and need bottled water the City has some available. Please call or email us.

10/25/2024 2:30PM Public Notice: BOIL WATER NOTICE
The Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation Drinking Water Program has issued this notice for all users of the
City of Seldovia public water system.
DO NOT DRINK THE WATER WITHOUT BOILING IT FIRST. Bring all water to a boil, let it boil for two minutes, and let it cool before using, or use bottled water. Boiled or bottled water should be used for drinking, making ice, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation until further notice. Boiling kills bacteria and other organisms in the water. Water can be used for handwashing without being boiled.
While we anticipate the Chlorine residual will increase over the weekend, the boil water notice will remain in effect until confirmed by laboratory testing. The earliest we anticipate that confirmation will be Tuesday.
