The Gazette is Taking a Leave of Absence

This is a difficult post to submit. Seldovia.com will continue to be a great resource for local information about Seldovia, hotels, restaurants, flight services, ferries, merchants and services, however, the online blog/newspaper page is taking some time off.
It is funny to say this, but as small as Seldovia is, you would think that there wouldn’t be much required to keep up with the news and happenings in our community. It is not! There is a lot going on! Working full time as a Realtor, and wanting a personal life as well, is creating the need for me to simplify and focus on the things that are most important to me, and to my family. For the time being, as much as I love writing for the paper – I don’t have the time to make it what I would like it to be, what it deserves to be.
Therefore, the Seldovia Gazette will not be posting for an undetermined period of time. The Facebook site Seldovia.com will remain active – as I still receive information that is valuable to Seldovia, and want you to know that I will be posting there on a casual basis.
Thank you for your readership and I appreciate your support of this great community!
The calendar from www.SeldoviaCalendar.com will continue to be featured on the home page of Seldovia.com – so you can always touch base there for upcoming information and events. This calendar is maintained by SVT and so you will need to address any changes or additions to that calendar by writing to Laurel Hilts at lhilts@svt.org.
There are many different entities hosting activities, calendars and events and they are already listed online! Under the Organization tab on Seldovia.com, you can visit the individual websites for SVT, SOCC, SAC, The Library, etc to receive all their current information. The Facebook Page “The Seldovia Chatterbox” has become a great location for all of Seldovia to post their individual activities to a public forum online! It works! You can click here or click on the image to the left – which will take you directly to that site to see what is happening in the community of Seldovia.
Another Facebook page has come into it’s own, and that is the Seldovia Free Buy Trade or Barter group, and obviously this works great if you have something you are looking to sell, buy or trade locally! It operates like the Classifieds – but it is free, and a great resource for items in our community off the road system! So if you have something to sell – check it out!

Seldovia.com and Seldovia Gazette has a New Look!

SeldoviaGazette.wordpress has been a temporary solution while I created a website that includes all the information of Seldovia.com and the Seldovia Gazette!
The day has finally come, and the New Seldovia.com site is live! Please Click Here to go directly to Seldovia.com, where you will have access to the Gazette as well! One site for both services! So, now, all you need to remember is Seldovia.com!
You will notice that on the new site, not only do you have the online Seldovia Gazette, you will find all the business and local information, events, weather, the webcams and many photos of our beautiful community! On the lower right of the page is the daily calendar for Seldovia (see example on the right) – where you have easy access to all the happenings in Seldovia. Thanks to SeldoviaCalendar.com for keeping this calendar current, as my widget draws information from that site!
At the bottom of the page, please note that there are quick links to the Alaska Marine Highway Schedule (AMHS), tidal, marine, state roads and important weather and travel links. On the far right column at the bottom of the page you also have the option to subscribe to the site – in order to receive an email when the site is updated. If you are into social media – you will notice a floating link to Seldovia.com’s Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and You Tube links!
If there is a feature that was on the old Seldovia.com or Seldovia Gazette site that you miss – please let me know (click on Email Webmaster button at the top right of the Seldovia.com page) and I will consider adding it to the new site. I am working hard to upload all the archives of the Gazette since 2005, but it is a big job – so I appreciate your patience on that!
