Celebration of Life for Agnes Lee

| November 25, 2013 | 0 Comments

submitted by Sunni Hilts – Agnes and her husband lived in Seldovia and Bob served as pastor at the Seldovia Bible Chapel in the 1970’s.

AgnesLeeLong time Alaskan resident, Agnes Lee, 74 went to be with her Lord on November 25, 2013 at her home in Palmer, Alaska. Agnes was born to Tom and Ruth Wood on September 14, 1939 in Pikeville, Tennessee.

During her youth Agnes put her faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as her Savior. She graduated from Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee in 1961 with a degree in elementary education.  In the fall of 1961 Agnes began teaching first graders at the Berean Memorial Church in Irving, Texas. It was there that she met a Dallas Theological Seminary student, named Bob Lee. They were married on August 1, 1963. Bob and Agnes joined the Central Alaskan Missions to help establish the Alaska Bible College in Glennallen, Alaska. They arrived in Alaska in January of 1966. Agnes worked as the college cook, teacher, and librarian while raising three children.

When Bob was called to pastor the Lazy Mountain Bible Church in Palmer in 1982, Agnes served as the church secretary, taught Sunday School, helped arrange the food service for many banquets, social gatherings and weddings, sang in the choir, and made many “meals on wheels” for needy families.

Agnes was known for her scrumptious meals and her hand dipped chocolates. She sold hundreds of her delicious raspberry pies and cakes at the Alaska State Fair.

Friends have written, “Agnes’ smile is God’s gift of sunshine to us all.” “Her joyful eyes, enthusiasm for life and sense of humor was contagious.”
Her husband writes, “She was my best friend and the love of my life. She was the wind under my wings, and an incredible, one of a kind, precious godly wife.”

Agnes is survived by Bob, her loving husband of 50 years; her son and daughter-in-law, Andrew and Nancy Lee of Anchorage, her daughter and son-in-law, Jenny and Dale Rowland of Fairbanks and daughter Penny Lee of Washington, DC, her grandchildren, Dalton and Kade Rowland, her brother Claude Wood of Pikeville, Tennessee, and her sister, JoeAnn Wood Moore of Manhattan, Kansas.

The Celebration of Life service will be held at the Lazy Mountain Bible Church on Saturday November 25, 2013 at 10:00 am.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made out to the Lazy Mountain Bible Church and designated for the Benevolent Fund which is used to help the needy.

Seldovia has a lot going on these days, and one of the big issues swirling around in the talking circles has been the quest by local resident Kris Lethin regarding the pursuit of annexation of the entire Seldovia Recreational District into the city of Seldovia.  I thought it best to give Kris the floor, and let him explain his position and why he feels it’s a positive opportunity for Seldovia.

Should you be interested in knowing more, there are links in this article, as well as an opportunity to express your thoughts at the next City Council meeting on December 11.  But for now, I wanted to thank Kris for taking the time to answer a few questions, and get us all up to speed on his thinking so that folks can make intelligent and informed decisions on their own!

KrisLethinGazette:    Kris, there is a lot of talk about your pursuit to annex the whole Seldovia Recreational Service area into the city of Seldovia.  Tell us about your proposal.

Kris:  The Seldovia boundary (annexation) issue has been simmering for decades in Seldovia.  There’s been an assumption that nothing could be done because any effort would be turned down by those living outside of Seldovia City Limits without knowing about the constitutionally created Local Boundary Commission that was created to resolve Continue Reading
