by Tania Spurkland
Here is a concert you don’t want to miss, an evening of the Blues with Michael “Hawkeye” Herman. He is performing in Seldovia this Saturday evening, March 1st at 7:30 pm at SBE School. He will be here in Seldovia as part of “Blues in the Schools” which is sponsored by Jack and Debbie Oudiz, Ocean Shores Seaside Lodging, Boss Hoggz, the Charlotte Martin Foundation, Conoco Phillips, Rasmuson Foundation , the Alaska State Council on the Arts, the Homer Council on the Arts, and the Seldovia Arts Council. Tickets are $5 at the door. There is free admission for youth (ages 18 and under).
We are also excited to announce that Hawkeye will be presenting workshops at SBE School with our students on both Monday and Tuesday, March 2nd and 3rd !
With over 40 years of performing experience, Michael “Hawkeye” Herman exemplifies the range of possibilities in acoustic blues, and personifies versatile musicianship, originality, and compelling artistry as a blues storyteller. His dynamic performances have won him a faithful following, and he leads a very active touring schedule of performances at festivals, concerts, school programs, and workshops.
Hawkeye performs a wide variety of traditional blues, ballads, swing, and original tunes, on six-string and twelve-string guitar, and is an adept and exciting practitioner of slide guitar and slide mandolin. His music has been included in video documentaries and in three hit theatrical productions, and his solo CD, Blues Alive!, released in 1998, was greeted by rave reviews and greatly increased the demand for his live performances at major blues and folk festivals. His newest CD, It’s All Blues To Me!, was released in May of 2005.

Games Start Today at 11:30am
Basketball games are on today – starting at 11:30am! Lumen Christi made it in this morning on the Rainbow Connection, and with the help of MANY drivers, we were able to get the team in from Jakolof Bay in time to start the first game at 11:30am this morning, Lumen Christi vs. Nanwalek!
Seldovia Girls team will play Lumen Christi Girls around 12:30 or so, and the Seldovia Boys will be playing Lumen Christi following the girls game! Last night was a great game, with good food, lots of folks who battled the crazy deep snow to get there, and the Seldovia Boys team won the game against Nanwalek!
Stop by and support the OTTERS! See you there!
