City Annexation Proposal Questions Answered
by Jenny Chissus
I’ve done a bit of digging, and want to try to clarify a few things, as there has been quite a bit of confusion. If you don’t have time for the full scoop, I have put together a quick list of the current status of the annexation issue.
- The City has NOT instigated, discussed or proposed any action regarding the issue of annexation.
- Kris Lethin is the sole instigator of this annexation proposal.
- The mailing from Kris Lethin that had the “City of Seldovia” in the return address was not intended by Kris to mislead anyone regarding the sender of the mailing everyone received this week.
- The City Council will be discussing this issue at the December 11 meeting, all are welcome.
- The Local Boundary Commission (LBC) has put the issue on the agenda for their next meeting (time yet to be determined), but it is a discussion Continue Reading
Kris Lethin Explains Reasoning Behind His Quest for Annexation
by Jenny Chissus
Seldovia has a lot going on these days, and one of the big issues swirling around in the talking circles has been the quest by local resident Kris Lethin regarding the pursuit of annexation of the entire Seldovia Recreational District into the city of Seldovia. I thought it best to give Kris the floor, and let him explain his position and why he feels it’s a positive opportunity for Seldovia.
Should you be interested in knowing more, there are links in this article, as well as an opportunity to express your thoughts at the next City Council meeting on December 11. But for now, I wanted to thank Kris for taking the time to answer a few questions, and get us all up to speed on his thinking so that folks can make intelligent and informed decisions on their own!
Gazette: Kris, there is a lot of talk about your pursuit to annex the whole Seldovia Recreational Service area into the city of Seldovia. Tell us about your proposal.
Kris: The Seldovia boundary (annexation) issue has been simmering for decades in Seldovia. There’s been an assumption that nothing could be done because any effort would be turned down by those living outside of Seldovia City Limits without knowing about the constitutionally created Local Boundary Commission that was created to resolve Continue Reading
Seldovia Forms its First Pilot’s Association
by Jenny Chissus
I received notice from Kris Lethin that he and Jerry had started this new venture for the pilots of Seldovia. I had a chance to visit a few minutes with Jerry Stranik who mentioned that this idea has been talked about for years, and they finally decided to make it happen! If you have a plane at the Seldovia Airport – you perhaps received one of these fliers the other day announcing this new group. Primarily, it is a way for fellow pilots to get together, talk about policies and procedures for communication and protocol at our fabulous air strip and meet socially – as pilots, like bikers and sailors, are often of similar mind and interests!
This first meeting/hanger party will be held on July 6th – as the 4th of July weekend is usually the busiest weekend of the year for our airport! Jerry was excited about the new group, and is hopeful to have a great turn out, both at the hanger party and with membership. Please give Jerry or Kris a call/email with any questions – and their information is listed below!
