A STRONG LOW PRESSURE CENTER MOVING ALONG THE WEST COAST OF ALASKA WILL BRING DANGEROUS WINDS TO TURNAGAIN ARM AND HIGHER ELEVATIONS BY MIDNIGHT TONIGHT. AS THE LOW MOVES AWAY FROM MAINLAND ALASKA BY MIDDAY SATURDAY…WINDS WILL BEGIN TO DIMINISH.

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN ANCHORAGE HAS ISSUED A HIGH WIND WARNING…WHICH IS IN EFFECT FROM MIDNIGHT TONIGHT TO 3 PM AKST SATURDAY. THE HIGH WIND WATCH IS NO LONGER IN EFFECT.

  • * LOCATION…TURNAGAIN ARM AND HIGHER ELEVATIONS.
  • * WIND…SOUTHEAST WIND 50 TO 65 WITH GUSTS TO 80 MPH.
  • * TIMING…WINDS WILL RAPIDLY INCREASE THIS EVENING AND CONTINUE INTO SATURDAY AFTERNOON BEFORE DIMINISHING.
  • * IMPACTS…TRAVEL MAY BE DIFFICULT. TREES MAY BE BLOWN OVER.  LOOSE DEBRIS CAN BE MOVED AND DAMAGE PROPERTY.

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS…

A resolution was filed with the Borough Clerk today to clarify the role of Facilitator of the Anadromous Fish Task Force meetings.  This resolution is necessary to insure that the Task Force’s recommendations are truly independent and not influenced by the Borough administration. This Task Force was created by the Borough Mayor to provide public comments and recommendations regarding Kenai Peninsula Borough (KPB) Ordinance 2011-12.  This ordinance zoned the first 50 feet of property adjacent to all streams, lakes and other water bodies on the Kenai Peninsula, Kalgin Island and west side of Cook Inlet that were not previously named to Borough Code 21.18.

Soldotna, Alaska (November 28, 2012) – Task Force member Fred Braun filed a resolution today with the Borough Clerk that if adopted by the Task force, will clarify the role of Facilitator.

AN UNSEASONABLE STORM OF CONSIDERABLE SIZE AND STRENGTH IS AFFECTING THE SOUTHERN MAINLAND THIS WEEKEND WITH STRONG WINDS AND HEAVY RAINS.

THE LOW IS NEAR THE ALASKA PENINSULA MOVING TOWARDS BRISTOL BAY. THE LOW WILL MOVE INLAND SUNDAY TOWARDS THE KUSKOKWIM VALLEY AND SLOWLY BEGIN WEAKENING SUNDAY NIGHT. Saturday’s Emergency Meeting Was Well Attended

On Saturday at 12:50pm I received a call from our City Manager that we were going to have an emergency meeting regarding the 50 foot setback ordinance – as Assemblymen Bill Smith and Mako Haggerty were arriving at the airport at 1:15pm, Saturday the 25th of February, 2012.  Only 25 minutes notice!

There were quite a few folks who made it a priority  to get together on such short notice to speak with the assemblymen regarding this issue.  We had Jere Murray – Parks & Rec and concerned citizen, Paulie Carluccio – P&Z Commissioner for Seldovia and borough Planning representative, Gerry Patrick- council member , Vivian Rojas – council member, Walter McInnes – council member, Tim Dillon – city manager, Dean Lent, – council member, John Colberg – council member,  Robert Purpura – council member, Mako Haggarty – KPB Assembly, Bill Smith – KPB Assembly, Steve Stanish – representing Dillon & Dillon Construction, Jim Hopkins – Hopkins Brothers Construction, and  Jenny Chissus – Realtor, Seldovia Gazette Editor and concerned citizen.
