| March 25, 2012 | 0 Comments

by Jenny Chissus – thanks Darlene for the head’s up on this!

The comment period is over – but there is still time to voice your comments about the proposed schedule for the AMHS via teleconference.  As noted below, the teleconference will be on this upcoming Tuesday, March 27th, at 1:30pm for the southwest and southcentral runs.  As it is proposed, looks like Seldovia will be serviced only once a week from November through April.  Check out the proposed schedule here.

There was a power outage in the Seldovia, Port Graham, and Nanwalek area at 11:57 PM Friday. The area is currently being provided power via the Gerry Willard Generation Plant in Seldovia which was put on line at 1:09 AM Saturday. HEA crews plan to inspect the main power line in the area Saturday morning and make necessary repairs.

Seldovia Airport Camera

These cameras are updating every 20-30 seconds, and are a great way to check in “live” with Seldovia!   There are also cameras at the city dock for AMHS arrivals/departures, another harbor cam and a lookout over Kachemak Bay!

Seldovia Harbor Web Camera

Thank you to the sponsors of these cameras: Sea Parrot Inn, Bridgekeeper’s Inn, Joe Fleckenstein, Ester In-Hout, City of Seldovia, Herring Bay Mercantile, Alaska Dancing EaglesAeroTech Inc. and Seldovia.com. Also – a BIG thank you goes out to Tom Glover who set up the cameras, and recently assisted with repairs to the harbor cam – and Kris Lethin – who is assisting with technical support with the cameras – as that is outside my area of expertise!

Thanks Tom and Kris, we so appreciate that
all the Seldovia cameras are up and running!!

Seldovia Snow And Ice

by Jenny ChissusSeldovia Ice Flow
We woke up this morning with 6-7 inches on the ground here in town along Main Street! The flakes were beautiful, big and lightweight coming down in a flurry. This photo was taken from the City Dock.  Huge sheets of ice were making their way out of Seldovia Bay towards Kachemak Bay, though many were getting hung up at the AMHS pier!  You can see them all floating out to sea in the next photo!

Snowy Seldovia DayI love the snow – everything is so white and clean, giving a soft black and white filter to our colorful world!   These are precious moments, living in Seldovia, enjoying the quiet of a Sunday morning, with the snow falling all about you, and nothing but an enthusiastic lab to lead your way, as you break through the perfect and untouched layer of fresh snow.   There are a few challenges, like finding a few tire tracks to follow so the snow doesn’t come over the top of your boots, keeping your camera dry during the myriad of photo moments, but these are some of my favorite Alaska days!  If you are in Seldovia – enjoy the beautiful snow, and check out below, as according to the weather underground, there is more on the way!
