June is coming in April! Seldovia Village Tribe is bringing expert skin sewer and instructor June Pardue to town for a free, three-day workshop. June will be teaching advanced skin-sewing techniques, and will also share her expertise in marketing craft items as a business.
June is a world-renowned Alaska Native artist who works in a wide variety of traditional art forms. She weaves fine grass baskets, designs and makes jewelry, crafts beaded headdresses, and designs and sews skin and fur garments and accessories. Her work can be found in museums throughout Alaska and in private collections world-wide.
June is also a fantastic teacher. With her help, workshops participants will learn a variety of stitches while making a pair of deer hide slippers with fur trim. She will also teach about different types of hides and furs and how to use them to get the desired look in a project.
This is a business workshop as well as a sewing session: June has years of experience as a working artist, and will share her knowledge about the entire process of turning crafting skills into a business.
