Our “People’s Choice” Carver is Back in Town!
by Jenny Chissus
So, have you heard an occasional chainsaw noise coming from the north side of town? We have a special return performance this week – as Rob Younkins, our People’s Choice carver from the Seldovia Chainsaw Exhibition 2012 is here, creating otters, halibut, tables and stools as well as salmon from our local spruce!
Rob is here until the ferry on the 5th, so come down to the Chainsaw Carving Competition site and watch him carve, chat a bit (he’s very friendly – in spite of his big chainsaw!) and perhaps even commission a special carving for a special someone! You will also have the opportunity to see the three carvings from this year’s competition! Continue Reading
Saturday’s Emergency Meeting Was Well Attended
by Jenny Chissus
On Saturday at 12:50pm I received a call from our City Manager that we were going to have an emergency meeting regarding the 50 foot setback ordinance – as Assemblymen Bill Smith and Mako Haggerty were arriving at the airport at 1:15pm, Saturday the 25th of February, 2012. Only 25 minutes notice!
There were quite a few folks who made it a priority to get together on such short notice to speak with the assemblymen regarding this issue. We had Jere Murray – Parks & Rec and concerned citizen, Paulie Carluccio – P&Z Commissioner for Seldovia and borough Planning representative, Gerry Patrick- council member , Vivian Rojas – council member, Walter McInnes – council member, Tim Dillon – city manager, Dean Lent, – council member, John Colberg – council member, Robert Purpura – council member, Mako Haggarty – KPB Assembly, Bill Smith – KPB Assembly, Steve Stanish – representing Dillon & Dillon Construction, Jim Hopkins – Hopkins Brothers Construction, and Jenny Chissus – Realtor, Seldovia Gazette Editor and concerned citizen. These cameras are updating every 20-30 seconds, and are a great way to check in “live” with Seldovia! There are also cameras at the city dock for AMHS arrivals/departures, another harbor cam and a lookout over Kachemak Bay!
Thank you to the sponsors of these cameras: Sea Parrot Inn, Bridgekeeper’s Inn, Joe Fleckenstein, Ester In-Hout, City of Seldovia, Herring Bay Mercantile, Alaska Dancing Eagles, AeroTech Inc. and Seldovia.com. Also – a BIG thank you goes out to Tom Glover who set up the cameras, and recently assisted with repairs to the harbor cam – and Kris Lethin – who is assisting with technical support with the cameras – as that is outside my area of expertise!
Thanks Tom and Kris, we so appreciate that
all the Seldovia cameras are up and running!!
