Good News For Seldovia
by Jenny Chissus
Sometimes, we can be discouraged about the apparent slow down of things in our little community, especially as we approach winter. A business that decides not to continue, residents that move away, kids that leave the school (due to a move out-of-town, or the home school option) can be disheartening for those of us left behind. Change is difficult, and it is hard to see old friends move away, retire or need to relocate for medical reasons. But take heart, as this year we had 10 new businesses join our chamber and only 3 didn’t renew their membership. This is progress!
The beauty is this, when one door closes, another opportunity becomes available for someone new, with new energy, ideas and enthusiasm to build a lifestyle in Seldovia. Each home that goes up for sale becomes a dream come true for a first time home buyer, retiree living their ultimate dream of summers in Alaska or new family to settle into our community! Last year, 36 properties came on the market and 17 sold, – I’d say that is pretty phenomenal for our little community! Continue Reading
In the Media… Seldovia’s City Manager Works with Team Alaska
by Jenny Chissus
Our City Manager is on the road this week, traveling with Team Alaska. Having directed the 2006 Arctic Winter Games (which has been widely considered one of the most successful games during it’s 30 year history) and with over 25 years of experience in international, professional and college sports, our very own, Mr. Tim Dillon is one of the 9 member board representing the state – Team Alaska – for the Arctic Winter Games.
This Board is responsible for the team and setting the policies for the Arctic Winter Games. As Tim is our City Manager, many folks like to know what he’s up to and how he’s making a great impact for our state and community!
We are proud of Tim, who continues to be out there in a national way, meeting with folks from Juneau and around the state and nation – representing Seldovia! Enjoy this article about the Arctic Winter Games from the Juneau Empire!

There were quite a few folks who made it a priority to get together on such short notice to speak with the assemblymen regarding this issue. We had Jere Murray – Parks & Rec and concerned citizen, Paulie Carluccio – P&Z Commissioner for Seldovia and borough Planning representative, Gerry Patrick- council member , Vivian Rojas – council member, Walter McInnes – council member, Tim Dillon – city manager, Dean Lent, – council member, John Colberg – council member, Robert Purpura – council member, Mako Haggarty – KPB Assembly, Bill Smith – KPB Assembly, Steve Stanish – representing Dillon & Dillon Construction, Jim Hopkins – Hopkins Brothers Construction, and Jenny Chissus – Realtor, Seldovia Gazette Editor and concerned citizen.
