Sorry for the super delayed photo story about the fabulous Chainsaw Exhibition 2012!

This Memorial Day chainsaw competition was a little different from the previous years. Due to a myriad of scheduling conflicts (a move out-of-state, opening a new gallery, moving a shop/workshop across town, building a home, etc.) many carvers weren’t able to make it to our event this year.
We were thankful that three great carvers joined us this summer, Ben & Silas Firth (2nd year), Jimmy Kitchens & Carisa Curtis (5th year) and Rob Younkins & Deveyn LaCroix (3rd year)!

Just a Few Notes, Kudos and Thank Yous!

I would like to personally thank all those who did such a great job on the Seldovia Summer Solstice Music Festival. It was a great success, well attended and beautiful to listen to.
I think the spirit of the festival was best seen at the beginning and the end of the festival. Each night the music was ushered in by Aliah Wheeler and Brian Slover on their Native American Flutes. The notes, so artfully made, soared around the room transforming it. The evening performances were equally special. Our local group Billy Goat rounded out the Friday night performance with great harmonies. Saturday night a rousing all-performer ending chorus of “Summertime” was returned by an equally enthusiastic return chorus by the audience, which many of the performers said, sent chills up their spines.
Highlights of the festival for me included the sunny days making outdoor jamming fun, the high quality workshops that were so well attended this year, and the shows themselves. Continue Reading

Our local Police Chief, Shad Haller arrested a man who has been on the lam for over 31 years! I saw Shad as he escorted Joseph Welch to Homer with Smokey Bay Air on Wednesday. As this article in the Anchorage Daily News states, it sounds like this was a real shock to Mr. Welch, who accepted his arrest without incident. The article got it wrong on one point, Chief Haller waited for him finish his dinner at the Tidepool Cafe before making the arrest! A considerate Police Chief for sure! Moral of the story: You can’t hide in Seldovia!
