by Jenny Chissus
Love that! Just got off the phone with Chaz at the Seldovia ferry office, and the Tusty is coming in the bay right now (2:43pm) and she said that they are hoping to have a speedy turn around and leave on time at 4:30pm! So, if you are taking off today – get ready to go!!
No Lutheran Service Today
by Jenny Chissus
I just received a message from Mike Webber saying that the Lutheran pastor called to say that his flight is cancelled due to high winds today. So, there won’t be a 1:30pm service today as scheduled. Ah, the challenges of living in a beautiful remote locale!
AMHS Ferry Schedule Update – September 16, 2012
by Jenny Chissus
This is not an official AMHS schedule report, but serves as helpful local information only.
I just got off the phone with the Homer AMHS terminal to verify the arrival into Seldovia today. Due to weather, the Tustumena just arrived (around 11:30am) into Homer, when its normal arrival there should have been 9:00am. So, in essence, she is about 2.5 hours behind schedule. Usually the AMHS tries to make up time when running behind, but I wanted to get the word out that it will definitely be late today getting into Seldovia. You can call the 1-800-642-0066 number for reservations or information or call the Homer terminal directly for more definitive information at 235-8449.
Good News For Seldovia

A business that decides not to continue, residents that move away, kids that leave the school (due to a move out-of-town, or the home school option) can be disheartening for those of us left behind. Change is difficult, and it is hard to see old friends move away, retire or need to relocate for medical reasons. But take heart, as this year we had 10 new businesses join our chamber and only 3 didn’t renew their membership. This is progress!
The beauty is this, when one door closes, another opportunity becomes available for someone new, with new energy, ideas and enthusiasm to build a lifestyle in Seldovia. Each home that goes up for sale becomes a dream come true for a first time home buyer, retiree living their ultimate dream of summers in Alaska or new family to settle into our community! Last year, 36 properties came on the market and 17 sold, – I’d say that is pretty phenomenal for our little community! Continue Reading
