Our “People’s Choice” Carver is Back in Town!
by Jenny Chissus
So, have you heard an occasional chainsaw noise coming from the north side of town? We have a special return performance this week – as Rob Younkins, our People’s Choice carver from the Seldovia Chainsaw Exhibition 2012 is here, creating otters, halibut, tables and stools as well as salmon from our local spruce!
Rob is here until the ferry on the 5th, so come down to the Chainsaw Carving Competition site and watch him carve, chat a bit (he’s very friendly – in spite of his big chainsaw!) and perhaps even commission a special carving for a special someone! You will also have the opportunity to see the three carvings from this year’s competition! Rob’s carving “A Pole Dance” with three otters swimming about the piling, has sold, the whale and bear are still available for purchase if you are interested in taking a masterpiece home with you! (The carver’s contact information is at the site, on each carving)
Rob brought down a whole “school” of halibut carvings to sell, $20 a piece – or 3 for $50 (a Jenny special he calls it – so ask for that!)! They can “swim” along your lawn, wall or sit as a centerpiece on your Independence Day table! Rob came down with his wife Karen and his two daughters, June and Lillie who are manning a booth over by the small boat harbor along with the other local crafters! These cute halibut are a great gift as well as a souvenir to take home!
A BIG thank you goes out to the City of Seldovia for accommodating Rob at the official chainsaw carving site, as well as HEA who kindly donated power to Rob as he sands and finishes his carvings this week! Another great addition to our 4th of July festivities!!!
