New Biz in Town… Creationz!
by Jenny Chissus
Seldovia welcomes a beautiful new, and definitely bright pink store to town! Tiffany Haller, a graduate of Susan B. English School, and wife of Shad Haller – our Chief of Police, wanted to have a place in town where she and her fellow crafters could display and sell their wares!
The new business, Creationz is located at 248 Lipke Lane – next to the Seldovia Medical Clinic and across the street from Dean Lent’s home. You will often see the police vehicle parked outside – as the Hallers reside above the store!
When Tiffany went to school in Seldovia, there used to be a store/gathering place called “Synergy” where the local crafters could gather and make their local art available to locals and visitors alike and she wanted to bring that back!
Tiffany loves to create beauty out of the ordinary, such as her Altoids tin photo books, CD picture albums, wine cork and wooden spool ornaments – and she has outdone herself recreating a boring basement space into an inviting and cheerful haven of happiness, just in time for Christmas! I’m not exaggerating here, as walking inside – there is so much to see and it is all cheerful and instantly brings a smile to your face!
This store allows Tiffany an outlet for her creative endeavors, as she has all her craft items neatly organized and displayed for easy access, and she actually can create and work in that space. She’s living my dream here!!
This is also a way to share her cards, boxes, ornaments, gifts and coconut body scrubs with the entire community, while providing the outlet for other artists! There are knitted scarves and hand-made bags by Kathleen Gruber, hats by Stephanie Blanchard, “Old hermit” crab and mermaid clay figurines by Sandee Elvsaas, jewelry and bead jellyfish from Brenda Barrett, candles and pot pourri from Roxi Patrick, handmade watercolor greeting cards and Christmas pins by Sherry Hingley and photo greeting cards of Seldovia by her own daughter Taylor Haller!
Tiffany has been very involved with the fire department and wanted to help raise funds for the volunteer service by providing custom Seldovia Volunteer Fire and EMS hats, sweatshirts and patches for sale to raise money for the department!
Are you having a party, celebrating a new baby, wedding, anniversary or birthday and need balloons? Tiffany has made the metallic mylar (wide assortment) and latex helium balloons available for purchase in her store as well – also to raise funds for the fire department. All monies for the balloons and clothing go directly to the department, she is graciously offering the space and access to these products to help our local Fire and EMS services! Way to go Tiffany!
Creationz is open Tuesdays to Saturdays from 10am to 2pm! Because she works through the noon hour, she welcomes anyone to stop by and bring lunch! Honestly, she hopes that folks will come by to visit, shop and even bring their crafts and work at the large table near the counter. She wants the community to look at the shop as a gathering place where friends can come and work on scrapbooks, make cards, knit, etc, and she has lots of scrapbook tools she is happy to share and there is definitely plenty of inspiration on every wall and shelf! (Of course the consumables are available for sale)
After the big Christmas rush is through, sometime in January, Tiffany plans on hosting small classes – only 5 or 6 people, showing folks how to create some of the amazing projects displayed in the store. In the new year, we can look forward to her “Make and Take Tuesdays” where you can come and make a card for free! There will be a grand opening in the Spring – but she wanted to get the store open now – in time for Christmas as there aren’t any other shopping opportunities in town for folks. I think she wanted to get all those crafts out of her living room upstairs and her son’s closet! As a fellow crafter, I know how you have to tuck things away in any available space!
Come shop for your Christmas gifts, but stop by soon if you want any Christmas cards (less than 20 when I was in last week) and her ornaments are flying off the displays as fast as she can make them!
I applaud Tiffany on two accounts: One, she is following her dream, her passion – you can tell by the quality and quantity (!) of work that she creates, that she loves what she is doing! She is creating and sharing beauty everywhere! Two, she has stepped out in faith and opened a business in Seldovia during the winter! Thank you for providing another outlet for fun, creation and shopping!
Please stop by and support this pretty pink shop on Main Street!
