HerrickAward2I had a great opportunity to meet with Donna Herrick on the phone the other day regarding their upcoming concert here in Seldovia on the 20th. We enjoyed a conversation regarding her excitement about coming to Alaska, and all the things that she is looking forward to while she’s here. Donna is most excited about meeting her fans in the great state of Alaska!  Herrick was in Alaska three years ago and they are excited to be coming back!   She said “Jenny, I can’t wait to breathe in the fresh air and be in the open environment of Alaska!  I love the camping/roughing it experience – so coming to Seldovia, a remote place in Alaska is super appealing!”  The band will also get a chance to go halibut fishing and is looking forward to the opportunity to be on the water and see the wildlife in our area, they are hoping that their drummer, Jeff  “Bradshaw” doesn’t get seasick on this trip!

When I asked Donna how she got started singing, she said that it all started in Southern Gospel music.  One of the greatest things was the crowd in Gospel was so gracious, it was a very safe environment to learn and grow and develop her skills. Donna mentioned that when she was young you could never have seen her on stage at all, but with the gospel music crowd who was so accepting, it was a great way to  ” cut her teeth”,  before she went to Nashville and started writing music.

The band is made up of four individuals: Donna and her husband Kerry, Jeff  “Bradshaw” the drummer and Jefferson Rogers on guitar.  Donna expressed with enthusiasm that this is her best team ever !  She and her husband have been together 12 years and had various support band members.  “Often a band may work really great together, musically, but  for every hour on stage they have 23hours on the road” and she said this team is so great they just love working together and traveling together and she really believes this is the best/most cohesive band she’s ever been a part of.  When both the musical talent and the personalities come together – it is magic!  This obviously makes everyone’s job and life enjoyable – and certainly is reflected on stage!  Click here to go to their site to listen in on some of their music!

Growing up in the Northwest, she lives in Spokane and has a 5000 acre ranch so she’s used to living out in the country, she truly loves the vastness of the country and the authenticity of the people in Alaska, so it’s kind of like going home for her.   She said: “Alaskan folks are so sincere, what you see is what you get!”  She laughed as she exclaimed “The guys are rugged and respectful!”

Herrick is looking forward to their visit here and hope everyone will turn out for their concert!  Being used to playing to large crowds, opening up for artists like Kenny Chesney and the Zac Brown Band is energizing, but they love the “up close and personal time” they get to enjoy in a small town concert.   They are super excited to be here and meet everyone.  They are truly looking forward to doing the workshop in the afternoon in Seldovia – as this is the first time they have ever done this!   It will be a learning opportunity, as each band member has something to share, and they will enjoy the intimate setting where they can explain their songs and interact with the crowd, making for a unique workshop as well as concert experience for everyone!

Come out to the show on August 20 at 7:30pm at Susan B English School, and you may also check out their website at http://www.herricklive.com  for more information.  Please stay tuned for the timing for the workshop!

PRESS RELEASE by Claire Ratliff

HerrickBandPhotoNASHVILLE, TN — One of the most active touring bands on the road has several Alaska dates during their annual summer tour. Music lovers have several unique opportunities to enjoy one of today’s hottest alt-country acts when Herrick plays in Ninilchik, Seldovia and Palmer in shows that include the Kenai Peninsula Fair and the Alaska State Fair. The tour also includes a very special performance and songwriting workshop in Seldovia, sponsored by the Seldovia Arts Council.

Nashville based band HERRICK most recently pocketed the Bronze Award in the 34th Annual Telly Awards for the music video “Do You Love Me.” The tune is currently climbing the radio charts. HERRICK also garnered the Best Country Song Award in the 11th Annual Independent Music Awards (IMA) for “Cry Memphis.” Both songs are cuts from the band’s first full album, NEW DANCE. While the band members have been road warriors since HERRICK’s conception, it was the winning of Jim Beam’s Battle of the Bands in 2010 that really heightened awareness of this powerhouse band.

Formed in Spokane, WA, Herrick is fronted by Donna Herrick with husband, Kerry Herrick. The band’s driving harmonies and powerful vocals are a trademark of the now Nashville-based act.

“We’re so excited to meet fans and make some new friends in Alaska,” says Donna. “We’ve got shows from Palmer to Seldovia, but we’re also hoping to make time for some serious sightseeing and Halibut fishing!”

Music writer Chuck Dauphin (Billboard, Music News Nashville) recently commented on the dynamic front woman, saying, “Herrick is the real deal, and may very well contain the next great female voice of this generation in Donna Herrick.”

Herrick is featured in several music industry magazines this Summer in an advertisement for G7 Capos, a brand they endorse.

HERRICK continues to grip music fans and industry professionals alike with a dynamic live show combined with compelling songwriting and comprehensive instrumentation, posing a musical triple threat that has established the band on the touring circuit with an average of 125 shows every year.

NEW DANCE (produced by HERRICK with industry icons Buddy Cannon and Michael Bonagura) was released on Breakaway Entertainment. Husband and wife duo Donna and Kerry Herrick have penned nearly all of the band’s songs including the current radio single “Do You Love Me.” The tune has broken into the Top 85 Country singles and continues to climb the charts. HERRICK is comprised of Donna Herrick(mandolin/lead vocals), Kerry Herrick (bass/vocals), Jeff Bradshaw (drums/percussion), and Jefferson Rogers (lead guitar/lap steel/acoustic guitar).
