SAC Kicks off the 2013 Season
by Tania Spurkland
The Seldovia Arts Council (SAC) is kicking off its busy 2013 summer/fall season with a free “Members Reception” at the Stranik’s residence on the Boardwalk on Saturday June 1st at 7:00 pm. Come and renew your membership or join SAC this evening and enjoy the relaxing string music of the Areté Trio featuring Emily Grossman on the violin, Kate McVey on the viola and Kevin Charlestream on the cello.
A native Tulsan, violinist Emily Grossman has been energetically involved with the Alaskan musical community since 2004. When she’s not teaching in her private studio in Soldotna or performing with the Anchorage Symphony, she prefers focusing primarily on chamber music.
Leaving behind a busy childhood of soloing as a concert cellist, Kevin Charlestream moved to Anchorage from Gloucester MA to accept a job as an aircraft technician and now teaches privately while enjoying as much chamber music as possible.
A born-and-raised Alaskan, Kate McVey studied viola performance under the direction of Dr. Juliet White-Smith at the University of Northern Colorado at Greeley. Since graduating in 2006, she returned to her hometown and plays in both the Anchorage Symphony and Anchorage Opera Orchestras, in addition to recently recording her debut album as a solo artist.

Street Sweeper Arrives Early Sunday Morning
by Jenny Chissus
This is a sign that summer is almost here! (I know it did snow in Homer today!) The City of Seldovia has partnered with the Department of Transportation for a street sweeper to come to Seldovia to clean up our main streets to welcome our summer season. Thanks to George Oliveira, Carl High and the Homer DOT office for coordinating this effort for Seldovia! Thanks so much!
The sweeper will be on the early morning ferry Sunday Morning the 19th, and will be working all day Sunday and all day Monday until the job is done! The sweeper has to head back to Homer on Tuesday, so time is of the essence! Please keep the streets clear from 8:00am to 5:00pm on both days. Please make sure all vehicles, trailers, etc. are removed from the paved streets of Seldovia so that the sweeper can do the job in the most expeditious manner possible, as we only have those two days! (We don’t want to have to go around your vehicle like this picture above!!)
This is also notice to those who have issues with dust to prepare for two days of activity cleaning the downtown streets of Seldovia.

Hello, Halo! There’s A New Cab in Town – 399-4229
by Jenny Chissus
Two of our local citizens, Perley Morrison and Bobby Gese saw a need in our little community, and just this last week have started a cab service in Seldovia! They already have two station wagons for getting folks around town and hope to add a van to their fleet in the near future. The new business is Halo Cab, though Halo is the name of one of Bobby’s dogs, it was Perley’s granddaughter, Neveah who thought that would be a great name for the cab service! Hello, Halo!
Perley mentioned that there has been a strong demand for speedy, reliable and year-long service in Seldovia – and he and Bobby plan to make that a reality! Both Perley and Bobby are year-round residents and are excited about this new venture. Cab service will be available for service between 8:00am and midnight, seven days a week, all year long – even on holidays! This won’t be just a summer Continue Reading
