Artists Workshops at SBE this Week
by Judy Standafer
Neal Nichols Jr will be at the school presenting to the students on Monday and Tuesday and possibly Wednesday morning. He is willing to show parents and community about his art on Monday night 7:00 pm at the school. I have included two samples of his art.
His website is: http://www.geographygameshow.
The Geography Gameshow is an interactive event that centers on the rendering of maps from around the world, entirely from memory. Students participate by guessing the locations of countries, states, geographical features and regions, competing to receive prizes for correctly doing so. The educational intent of this presentation is to teach comprehension and to inspire the importance of learning.
Tusty Delayed Return Continues
Received by the City of Seldovia
Dear Elected Official,
Unfortunately, completion of the Tustumena refurbishment project has suffered another setback. On Friday ultrasonic thickness testing of repairs to the hull identified three areas where the improper thickness of steel plate was installed. Seward Ship and Drydock has the appropriate thickness plate in stock and replacement of the undersized material began over the weekend. This work will push back the launch date to approximately September 20. Based on this new information, the Tustumena will not be in service until mid-October and therefore the Kennicott will remain in southwest Alaska for the first part of October to provide service to Kodiak. The October schedule will be revised accordingly.

Seldovia Bay Ferry Extends The Schedule
by Robin Giossi
As a service to our communities, the 2013 season has been extended until further notice. Thank you to the dozens of people who responded to our survey. The new sailing schedule begins Friday, September 6th. Operating Monday, Wednesday and Friday, the Kachemak Voyager will depart Seldovia for the 45-minute trip at 9:00am and 4:30pm, and depart Homer (Ramp 7) at 11:00am and 6:30pm. Passengers are asked to arrive 30 minutes before departure, more if transporting freight. Tickets can be purchased right on the vessel—reservations are not required. One-way tickets are $33 per person, plus taxes.
