Hints about using search engines

When using search engines, the biggest problem you will encounter is obtaining too many sites that match your search. To restrict the number of sites returned, the search engines have provided the user with some simple tools. These tools are described in detail at each of the search engine sites in their Help sections. The following are one of the most common tools: If you search for water , you will get millions of entries but you can restrict your search by being more specific. If you search for "clean water" (actually type in the quotes) you will restrict the search to the exact phrase "clean water" and get about 100,000 sites. You can further restrict your search by entering "clean water" + "sailing in", (type in the quotes and the plus sign) which looks for sites that have both the phrases at the site. Finally, if you enter "clean water" + "sailing in" + Alaska , your search will return about 80 sites, which is a reasonable number of sites to look at.
