FRIDAY, AUGUST 20, 2010: It has been a crazy week at the post office here in Seldovia. I was able to get in touch with Darus Macy, the spokesperson for the United States Postal Service in Anchorage who filled me in on the week's events.
Since Margaret McInnes' retirement a few months ago, Jeff Madsen has been the single postal employee and Officer in Charge for Seldovia, and unfortunately, Jeff had been hospitalized on Monday the 16th. It was too late to send a replacement over that day, so there was no service at all on Monday. Tuesday through Thursday a replacement was sent over from the Homer post office to manage our office and open the service window.
Today, Robert Welch, the Postmaster from Ninilchik came over on the 10:00am flight with Smokey Bay Air to serve as Postmaster until August 30th, when the new Postmaster, Ray Dronenburg from Northway (about 40 miles south east of Tok) begins work in Seldovia. As of today, there was no notice of when Jeff will be able to return to work. Starting today will be back to full service and our regular USPS schedule.
We want to thank "Bob" Welch for coming to fill in for us here in Seldovia, and we all wish Jeff a speedy recovery.
