is a list of sighted birds in and around Lake Susan in Seldovia by
Sue Hecks:
Rufous hummingbirds
(April through July - nest in woods south of the house);
Great Blue Herons (year round - they roost in spruce trees
on either side of the house)--
One single and one pair hang around the lake area The lone Heron is
very
Territorial but in the winter they close together
Pine Grosbeaks - multiple pairs (spring / summer nest in area)
Red Crossbill (occasionally)
Downy Woodpecker (March -April)
Red-breasted Sapsucker (one hit the window)
Belted Kingfisher (all summer)
Sharp Shinned Hawk (nest somewhere around Gerry Patrick's /
Dillon's)
Merlin Falcon (usually in August)
Violet Green Swallows (scout's first week of May, main flock
follows about a week later)
American Robins (spring is really here when you hear the first
Robin 2004 it was on
April 28)
Varied Thrush (year round)
